Biography
Gavin Herlihy is a producer and mix engineer with releases on some of the world's biggest house and techno labels.
In 2019 he mixed EPs/singles under the name Herling for labels like PMR/Virgin/EMI, Crosstown Rebels, Music For Freaks, Madhouse, Street Tracks, Nervous, Organic Music to name a few and his discography includes EPs and singles on Cocoon, Crosstown Rebels, Infuse, Cadenza, Leftroom and Culprit. As producer he has engineered Top 10 Beatport genre tracks (including a number one Deep House track) as well as written music for vinyl only labels.
With 17 years of experience in the dance music industry, Gavin brings a wealth of experience to the table. He started life as a music professional working for the world's biggest electronic music magazine, Mixmag. Over a seven year stint at the magazine, he worked as a Music Editor and edited the Big Tunes section for many years. As Features editor he introduced artists like Jamie Jones, Ricardo Villalobos, Luciano or Loco Dice to a wider audience.
His first track was hailed by DJs like Laurent Garnier and DJ Hell as one of the techno tracks of the year in 2006. It prompted a move to Berlin where he set about learning his trade as a producer. A couple of years later he was remixing legends like Romanthony, Todd Terry or UNKLE and touring the globe as a DJ. He has played for some of the world's best clubs including Panorama Bar in Berlin, Circoloco at DC10 in Ibiza, D'Edge and Warung in Brazil and Fabric in London.
Along the way he has worked as a consultant manager for Grade Management, the UK company behind artists like Seth Troxler and Eats Everything.
Today he works as a mix engineer, music producer and consultant, helping artists to get the best out of their productions. He uses a combination of analogue gear by the likes of Moog, Dave Smith, Solid State Logic, Universal Audio, Korg, or Elektron, and hi-end plug-ins in an acoustically treated studio to add the extra twenty per cent to every piece of music he works on. For the past decade he has edited Mixmag's music technology section and writes freelance technology articles for magazines like SoundOnSound. His recent production output as Karousel includes releases on vinyl labels like Fuse's sister label Infuse, Constant Sound and Sensoramic.

Production
Whether you want to write a Beatport hit or a top selling vinyl, start a new track from scratch or finish a loop, I can help you. I use a range of methods to help producers write tracks that sound uniquely theirs and make the process of writing exciting and inclusive. If you choose to work from my studio, my sessions are all about staying on your feet and jamming with the machines. The idea is to keep you involved and not falling asleep watching the back of the engineer's head as they work. I've helped dance music producers across the board; from hard techno to disco, house and electro and everything in between.

Mix Engineering
I use a combination of hardware and software to add the best of both worlds to your mix. I can mix in the box or for an extra charge hybrid mix through an analogue desk and use a range of premium analogue tone shaping devices to enhance your track (SSL Fusion, Empiral Labs Distressor, LA-2A, 1176, Black Box HG-2, etc). I work on a broad range of music and clients, from hard techno to electro, or minimal house to disco, tech house to breakbeat. My mixing is fully comprehensive. I start with each element from scratch to ensure every stem is optimised in a professionally treated room to ensure I can hear the mistakes that you may have missed.
Finish Your Loop
Many producers find it impossible to escape the loop. If you're unable to break out of yours, send me the parts and I will suggest additional production. Perhaps that's a new pad or drum part or maybe your existing elements need replaying through my analogue gear. I will then arrange the track for you and write and record the additional elements and ensure it has all the hallmarks of a professionally written piece of music. Along the way I'l send you snippets of audio or screen grab videos so you stay involved in the decision making process at all times.

We can conduct the call over Skype or Google Hangouts and share DAW screens (if discussing your production/mixing). Calls last an hour (or less if research time is required to analyse your music, profile etc).
